Art break in the middle of work
Art break in the middle of work

A few of my submitted pieces in the exhibition (above)
In April 2022, while working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Umeå, I had the opportunity to participate in the Arts and Crafts Exhibition for Academics, Students and Staff. Here are a few of my submitted pieces (above), paintings that quietly took shape during reflective intervals beyond the microscope and lab.
The exhibition was hosted inside Skogis, the main SLU building in Umeå, which houses the Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology and is part of the Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC). What struck me most is how thoughtfully Sweden weaves art into its public and institutional spaces. Whether in schools, hospitals, or research facilities, government offices everywhere art lives among the routines of daily life, not as decoration, but as presence. Below is a sneak peek at some of the submitted pieces from other colleagues, each reflecting their own quiet dialogue between work and creativity.

The interior of Skogis reflects a notable spirit for its integration of art and science. Hand-painted murals of rural Swedish houses and landscapes, striking 3D architectural wall sculptures flow across its walls and stairwells, transformed an academic building into a quiet gallery of place, presence, and imagination.
